Few books have impacted my perspective on human spiritually and behavior. A teensy complete a twelvemonth ago I read a sticker album by Dr. Martin Seligman called, "Learned Optimism". Seligman was intrigued by an try your hand he had witnessed involving dogs who exhibited unfathomable behaviors. His prying led him to invent the "Shuttle box" experimentation. Without active into remarkable detail, the two-phased scientific research went along these lines.
Phase 1: 'Group A' dogs were separately set into a support with a bar in facade of them. Each dog was next administered a soft shock therapy sporadically. After few time, the dogs completed that by drumbeat the bar, the shocks would suspend. The experimentation was recurrent near a second bundle of dogs (Group B) but with one intense exception, there was no bar provided to withdraw the shocks.
Phase 2: Group A dogs were now one at a time placed put into a shuttlebox having two compartments beside a modest chain in the interior. Again, a distress was administered periodically and after several juncture all dog got up, stepped concluded the boundary marker and rapt to the other broadside of the box wherever the shocks stopped. Group B dogs were later located separately into the aforesaid shuttlebox. The electroshocks were over again administered sporadically. Unlike the dogs in Group A which chose captive to the another broadside of the box, the Group B dogs didn't; they fair ordered near and whimpered.
